Fog lights are generally used to illuminate the road surface in front a car in conditions of fog, rain, and snow. They cannot be used separately from the standard low beams. Just like the fog lights, the driving lights supplement the standard beams and are used to provide illumination forward of the vehicle.
Just because there’s a fog doesn’t necessarily mean you need to turn on your fog lights right away. The Highway Code states that fog lights should only be used when visibility is affected by more than 100 meters. It’s good practice to avoid using fog lights when there are other drivers in front of you, so make sure you use them wisely for your own and other people’s safety.
For more information on the rules for using fog lights read the blog WHAT ARE THE FOG LIGHTS AND WHEN TO USE THEM?
Yes. Fog lights must be used like your high beams: turned off when within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle and within 350 feet when following another vehicle. Forward-pointing fog lights must be white, amber, or yellow.
Yes, this is definitely the best upgrade. Not only do LED fog lights have a brighter light compared to halogen lights, but they will also give your vehicle a sleek and modern look. And they are definitely better than halogen lights in terms of performance and longevity, reducing the frequency of replacement due to fog light failure in the long run.
LEDs have less power consumption and often weigh less, and are compact compared to a halogen bulb. However, the point is, if you are upgrading the halogen to an LED, be sure to check that the plugs on these stock lights are designed for halogen lights and that they are the same LED plugs as stock before purchasing a replacement.
Are you buying fog lights for the first time? Here are the factors to consider when making your selection:
Fog lights come in two main color temperatures: 3,000K and 6,000K (or 6,500K) and these are preferred by everyone. Cool white fog lights match LED headlights for a more technological look and allow for more forward illumination. Yellow fog lights at 3,000K are more penetrating and are more likely to be preferred by drivers driving in fog, haze or snow.
It won’t. Our LED fog light bulbs are CANbus-ready compatible with 99% of vehicles and will not have decoding errors. If the fog lights have been in use for an extended period of time and are having flickering issues, they may be nearing the end of their useful life and you will need to replace them with new ones.
No, LED fog lights do not cause glare. LED fog lights are a little brighter than halogen lights but not too bright, and are specifically set up for rain and fog and to meet the lighting needs of drivers in all types of inclement weather with extremely low visibility. However, if you are driving with high beam headlights, then it’s possible that the two sources of light can cause some annoying glares. Some cars have a feature where if you switch to fog light mode, you have to switch to low beam headlight mode. This is because drivers need to drive slowly in fog and the intensity of the lights should be sufficient for low-speed driving.
If the condensation is inside the fog light housing, there’s a high chance some sort of crack has developed on the fog light. Even a tiny crack can lead to condensation.
In this case, if the inspection reveals that the fog lamp housing has been damaged, the fog light housing can be replaced to prevent condensation erosion of the bulb, which can shorten the service life of our LED fog light bulbs, even though they are IP67 waterproof.
However, if there is no visible damage to the housing, please remove the LED bulb and dry the housing, then check the o-ring to see if it needs to be replaced due to loss of elasticity.
